The Australian Made Logo

Australian Made logoThe much-loved kangaroo logo has come a long way since it was launched 22 years ago. It can now be found on almost 10,000 products manufactured or grown by some of Australia's most innovative and leading businesses. And it isn't just Australian consumers, who benefit from the clear labelling of goods made here. The hunger for all things Australian is a global phenomenon and our local manufacturers and growers are increasingly selling their goods in export markets, with the green and gold logo used as a way to show consumers that the good they are buying is really Australia.

Although the logo is not as well known globally as it is in Australia, awareness is increasing and consumers from Bangkok to New York instantly recognise the stylised kangaroo as a symbol of quality and an indicator that the product carrying the logo is Australian.

The recognition and trust in the logo is high and the protection of the logo and how it is used continues to be central to the Australian Made, Australian Grown Campaign, the not-for-profit organisation that administers the use of the logo. Only products that are registered with the Campaign and meet the criteria determined in the Trade Practices Act and the Campaign's own Code of Practice may carry the logo.

For a product to qualify to use the logo with the descriptor Australian Made, it must be:

  • "substantially transformed" in Australia [i.e. the final manufacturing process must take place here], and
  • 50% or more of the cost of production must be incurred in Australia.

For a product to qualify to use the logo with the descriptor Product of Australia, it must meet the following criteria:

  • all significant components or ingredients must originate from Australia, and
  • all, or virtually all, of the production processes must take place in Australia.

For a product to qualify to use the logo with the unqualified descriptor Australian Grown, it must meet the following criteria:

  • Each significant ingredient has to be grown in Australia
  • All or virtually all of processes involved in production of the good must occur in Australia.

To carry the logo, products must be registered with the Australian Made, Australian Grown Campaign. To find products registered with the Campaign, please click here to visit the online directory of all products carrying the green and gold logo.
