About the Region 
Established in 1911 to create a capital for the newly federated country of Australia, Canberra is home to approximately 325,000 people and is the capital city of Australia and home to Parliament House where the countries decisions are made. It is one of the world's few planned cities, a city built within a park with 2330 square kilometers (900 square miles) set aside for the country's capital, and 53% of which today remains nature park or reserve. It is a thriving modern city with stylish restaurants, hip bars and boutique shopping. Throughout the year Canberra enjoy many festivals and events, and includes many family orientated activities.
Surrounding regions offer over 30 wineries, historic townships, and the famous Snowy Mountains. Only 45 minutes drive from the city is Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve which offers walking trails and ranger-guided activities. Camping is possible with fishing and horse riding permitted in designated areas.
The magnificent rainforest's and valleys of the Fitzroy Falls and Moreton National Park near Moss Vale are also well worth a trip. At the Yarrangobilly Caves there are stunning frozen waterfalls, limestone caves and sparkling fresh underground pools.
A 2 hour scenic drive from Canberra are the Snowy Mountains, where you can seasonally find beautiful alpine flowers, top ski resorts, wild brumbies (wild horses), fishing, trekking, horse riding and much more.
