In 2005 MTV Australia launched the first ever MTV Australia Video Music Awards, based on the VMA awards format used in Europe and the US. Much of the Australian charts is widely dominated by American Pop and Rock artists. In recent years, bands such as Jet and Wolfmother have seen wide acclaim in Australia and have often gone on to achieve widespread success in other countries. The Dance scene in Australia is also becoming successful internationalu, with the success of Australian acts such as Kylie Minogue, Rogue Traders and Delta Goodrum. Garage Bands such as Jet and The Vines have also risen to international prominence. Australian hip hop artists have also finally begaun to receive commercial attention. There is also a small, but vibrant underground hardcore punk and straight edge music scene. In the rock music scene, indie rock bands like Powderfinger, Spiderbait & Grinspoon continue tothrive, both on the charts and on the live circuit. Also a well established Hardcore, Heavy Metal scene exists particularly in South & Western Australia.
