The Northern Territory (NT), is situated at the top end of Australia and is home to people representing more than 100 nationalities.  There used to be a slogan for the Northern Territory. "You will never ever know, if you never ever go", and that about explains it. It is one of those rare places on Earth that can't be put into words.

 

Climate

The northern end has a tropical climate with a wet & dry season. The central region is the desert centre of the country, which includes Alice Springs and Ayers Rock, and is semi-arid with little rain usually falling during the hottest months from October to March.

Dry season (May to September):   most days are warm & sunny, with afternoon humidity averages around 30%. Little rain falls May - September. In the coolest months of June and July, the daily minimum temperature are as low as 14 °C (57 °F), but rarely lower, and frost has never been recorded.

Wet season (October to April):  tropical cyclones and monsoon rains. Most rain fall occurs between December & March, when thunderstorms are common and afternoon humidity averages over 70% during the wettest months. On average more than 1,570 mm (62 in) of rain falls in the north. Rainfall is highest in north-west coastal areas.

About Our State

The Northern Territory lies within the tropics mainly consists of Savannah woodlands with pockets of rainforest, with a coastline that is mainly flat and backed by swamps, mangroves and mudflats, rising to a plateau no higher than 450 meters. In the north, monsoonal influences produce two definite seasons known locally as "the wet" (October to April), when the coast is subject to tropical cyclones, and "the dry" (May to September).

Society & Culture

Darwin, the capital is situated in the north-western corner of the Territory. It is the only capital city in Australia that has suffered serious attacks during its history. The first being the Japanese bombing, and the second being Cyclone Tracy which completely leveled the city. This is why you will find a very modern city, but with strong community ties that are the result of its volatile history.

Things To Do

Destinations of interest for visitors include Kakadu National Park, Katherine Gorge, Kakadu, Melville Island, Kakadu, Arnhem Land, the Katherine Region and Ipolera, just to name a few!

Other notable features of the Red Centre are King's Canyon, Ross River, Trephina, Ormiston and Glen Helen Gorge, the Olgas near Uluru (Ayers Rock) and the Devil's Marbles at Tennant Creek.

More About The Area

There are other parks and reserves with abundant bird and animal life. However, the whole of the Northern Territory is one huge tourist destination.
